Interior Architecture Design 4

Site context and building analysis is a vital step in the design process. It involves the evaluation of an existing site in relation to the development program, environmental impact, impacts on the community and adjacent properties, project budget, and schedule. The site analysis identifies environmental, program, and development constraints and opportunities. A well-executed site investigation forms the essential foundation for a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive, and rational approach to project development. The physical, cultural, and regulatory characteristics of the site are initially explored. Some of these factors can be assessed by collecting and analyzing information; others are best addressed by walking the site and traversing its environs.

Task

In groups, students to investigate the physical, cultural, and regulatory characteristics of the site which located at Jalan Hang Kasturi, Kuala Lumpur. Students are required to prepare a complete analysis of the site surrounding/context and the building condition. The findings will be documented as per requirement.

All designed objects tell a story. Their stories can sometimes be interpreted easily, and at other times need to be discovered through thoughtful consideration. The Hybrid Stay + Play operates on two levels to seamlessly achieve one objective. It has dual income streams which create a different form of momentum, in the form of cash flow and a tangible point of difference to draw in customers. You have the main source of income from the stay business and a secondary income from the other service business. The nature of the these two businesses can be vastly different, but they must support each other.

Task

Student to select a concept stay approach based on your research and pair them with a suitable ‘hybrid – play services’ opportunity. Study the selected approach and suggest potential design direction to facilitate the branding and design of the proposed HOSPITALITY project. Consider the name of the project and logo design. Student will need to identify what you are designing and begin to develop your programme narrative. Fundamental to the development of your brief, is an understanding of the relationship between conceptual approach that you have begun to explore and functional purpose of your proposals (Final Project). This in turn must be contextualised within the given site (Project 1) In the process of creating your narrative programming, consider the following:

▪ Research and understand the activity and market you are designing for, ▪ The people, your dreams, resources, concerns, SWOT analysis,

▪ Priorities, must haves-would be nice to have, what’s not important-what is,

▪ What 'feel' is expected, building style, material preferences, disposition, ▪ Introduce your approach to the existing building and its context,

▪ Propose quality of spaces required for the activities you identify,

▪ Concept analysis, approach, big idea, wow factor,

▪ Operational overview, systems, function.
