Interior Architecture Design 3

Project 1: Proximity, Fixation + Discovery

Site context and building analysis is a vital step in the design process. It involves the evaluation of an existing site in relation to the development program, environmental impact, impacts on the community and adjacent properties, project budget, and schedule. The site analysis identifies environmental, program, and development constraints and opportunities. A well-executed site investigation forms the essential foundation for a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive, and rational approach to project development. The physical, cultural, and regulatory characteristics of the site are initially explored. Some of these factors can be assessed by collecting and analyzing information; others are best addressed by walking the site and traversing its environs.

Task

The site is both a limitation to design and provider of incredible opportunities. Every site has its own physical attributes that comprised of memories and traces of its surroundings. The neighboring buildings, materials used, form, height and other physical characteristic will affect and influence the design later on. In short, to understand your site is to find 'clues' that inform your design ideas. All these must be reflected from your study that will be ingroup. Site: ‘The Row’ Address: Jalan Doraisamy, Kuala Lumpur The Row comprises of 22no.s of 1950’s shoplots on Jalan Doraisamy, Kuala Lumpur which were previously known as ‘The Asian Heritage Row’.

GROUP 3 : BUILDING ANALYSIS + INTERIOR Existing condition of interior elements consists of wall, floor, ceiling, door, window, staircase, roof, openings, built-in furniture, spatial function and layout analysis, natural ventilation, etc.

Project 1b: Precedent Studies to Subject Matters (Individual)

In order to proceed to the next phase of the project, student required to do a background research on a subject matter related to his or her own interest and obsession. Student to determine the essence, meaning, determine the process and function, emphasize the importance of meaningful and multi-layered definition and immersion into that particular interest and obsession.

• To come out with an interest and obsession as subject matter that students able to project it visually with great in-depth research and deconstruct of its multi-layered definition and characters thoroughly.

• Analyze and display the creative process, influences and decisions that inform your design practice.

• To conceptualize ideas from design thinking before the design process and thorough info-graphic.

Project 2: ‘Post-Apocalptjc’ Entity

Scenario: Life as we know it will reach to its ‘extinction’, yet there are little remains survived and the unknown cause of destruction and apocalypse nature. For aeons, mankind, animals and cryptids have experienced what is known as ‘the end of the world’: Apocalypse. Not all life form will forever remain to end, they just simply ‘disappear’ for a glimpse of days, weeks, months or even years and soon after, the survived ones unearth to restart their life. From catastrophic natural disaster: tsunami, earthquake, volcanic eruption, nuclear war, zombie apocalypse, asteroid strike, alien invasion and many more to come. What and how will your future Post-Apocalypse will be?

Task: Reshape and nurture from what is left and channel that and mold it into space. What is logical? What is emotional? All ‘substance’ contributes to the making of the conceptual model.

We dwell in our thoughts and come up with a narration of the cause of the apocalypse and the location of where one stand as an approach. The important elements of survival that shaped a new life-form will flourish from elements of defence, devices, weaponry, culture, art, transportation, technology, survivability and many more that will projected into a functional conceptual model that represents their work artistically. Conceptual keywords process must be injected to better understand sculpt and mould our conceptual model accordingly.
